A Clinic For Beginning Backcountry Skiers

This course is for competent resort skiers who are wanting to explore the world of backcountry skiing. Our instructors will lead you an introductory tour through Rocky Mountain National Park. With late spring being one of the best times to ski in the park we should be able to make some sweet turns! Whether you are new to backcountry skiing or would just like a guided tour through some great terrain, this is going to be a fantastic day. In a quick classroom session we will discuss the basics of tour planning and preparation, along with a brief overview of avalanche safety. Bring a friend and get ready for a day sure to leave your legs tired and your face beaming with a big smile.

FAQ'S

is it safe?

While there is always risk involved in any outdoor activity, Expedition does it's best to mitigate any foreseeable risk. All of our ski guides have completed avalanche training courses with the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE).

What if I have never skinned-up a hill on skis?

Skinning up a hill on skis is strenuous and we ask that clients consider their personal level of physical fitness before joining us for a trip. However, previous skinning experience is not required for this outing, although downhill skiing experience is required. 

What about food?

Participants are responsible for bringing their own lunch. Expedition's guides may have a treat or two waiting for you when need it though!

What about transportation?

We will meet at Expedition's office at 7am. Participant's will drive themselves, carpooling is encouraged.

How do I know my guides know what they are doing?

Each EBA guide has been through training with AIARE in avalanche awareness, avalanche safety and backcountry decision making. AIARE is a nationall recognized institution with training programs and certifications for the every day enthusiast all the way to professional mountain guides.
